Heat (1995)
Pacino vs De Niro, one coffee-shop conversation, and the loudest bank-robbery shootout ever filmed.
A cop and a thief who are better at their jobs than at anything else in their lives. It’s nearly three hours long and I’ve never once checked the time.
For gamers
- The downtown shootout is the blueprint for every heist game since. Payday and GTA V’s heist missions borrow from it openly.
- The crew-planning scenes, picking the team, casing the bank, are basically a pre-mission loadout screen.
- “Don’t let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat.” Also good advice for roguelike runs.
Our verdict
30 SECONDS FLAT / 10.
